What is Microneedling?

Automated microneedling (also known as Epidermal Collagen Induction Therapy or ECIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, and the improvement of the skins tone, texture, and colour. During this procedure, the Eclipse MicroPen® is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to aid in the production of collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker epidermis with softer appearance of wrinkles. Eclipse MicroPen® also creates micro-channels which allow topical gels, creams, and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing the effects in deeper layers of the skin. Microneedling can be performed on the face, abdomen, thighs, back, and underarms.

  • Safety First. The Eclipse MicroPen® is inherently safer than other products, such as dermal rollers. The MicroPen® delivers greater efficiency and superior clinical results while maintaining the highest level of safety for both the patient and provider. It is also safe for most skin types, which means it is a great procedure for almost everyone!

  • Faster is Better. MicroPen’s high-speed motor allows for a more efficient yet timely procedure. The rapid pen motion provides a more comfortable experience that patients describe as a mild sandpaper-like sensation.

  • Customized For Patients. Each patient has unique skin needs and requirements. The variable pen position feature allows MicroPen® professionals to customize a treatment for best clinical results.

  • Consistent Results. Safety and control features lead to predictable, consistent results. Compared to lasers and dermal rollers, MicroPen® is able to deliver reliable and improved outcomes for virtually every patient.

The Eclipse MicroPen® can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. It can be also used for for facial rejuvenation in combination with the Eclipse PRP to deliver the growth factors to the dermis of the skin.

How Quickly Will I See Results From Microneedling?

Immediately following microneedling, the treatment area will be glowing with some possible redness. Over the next 24 to 48 hours, you will continue to see visible improvements as collagen production is enhanced and cell renewal continues. Maximum benefits from microneedling will be visible within two to six weeks from the date of treatment, as the deeper layers of skin are plumped with new collagen and pores are tightened and minimized. Repeated treatments are recommended to achieve the best results with long lasting impact.

What is The Downtime For Microneedling?

Downtime for microneedling is minimal, with the most noticeable effects visible immediately after treatment. It is common to appear slightly red due to the micro-injuries, but this should resolve within 24 to 48 hours. Light peeling and tightening of the skin can also occur and is perfectly normal. Typically our clients can return to work within 24 hours of the procedure.

Microneedling + PRP

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) is derived from your own blood and contains high concentrations of platelets and growth factors that help your tissue heal and grow new cells. PRP is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube. The tube is centrifuged to separate your plasma, the portion of the blood that we use for the treatment, from your red and white blood cells, which settle to the bottom of the tube.

Historically, PRP has been primarily used in orthopedic medicine, dentistry and reconstructive surgery to help speed recovery. Now it’s used in aesthetic medicine to help damaged, aging skin grow new collagen and elastin for beautiful, youthful results.

When PRP is used with microneedling, it penetrates your skin through the tiny channels the microneedles create. The PRP supercharges the microneedling benefits. PRP also addresses under-eye puffiness and dark circles to give you a more youthful, well-rested appearance. Since PRP is derived from your own blood, the side effects are virtually eliminated. Microneedling+PRP treatments are performed by our nurse and lab technician.

Is microneedling safe?

Microneedling is considered an extremely safe procedure. No harsh chemicals are used during the procedure, and the Eclipse MicroPen is thoroughly sterilized according to the highest safety standards. Irritation and complications following microneedling are extremely rare and most redness will resolve within 24 hours.

How do I prepare for microneedling?

There are no specific preparation requirements for microneedling. As with any form of microneedling, it is recommended ceasing the use of Retinol and AHA/BHA products in the two weeks leading up to the procedure to minimize the chance of irritating the skin. It is also recommended to hold off starting using these products for another two weeks following treatment.
